This Tabriz in wool, 267 x 358 cm, reads as a well-aged formal rug with a softened palette. A faded red field carries an allover arrangement of palmettes and leaf motifs set within a repeating floral lattice, its tones mellowed to beige, brown and pale blue through even abrash and medium wear. The wide border of cartouche medallions and rosette guards sits in quiet contrast to the field, the pile low with a tactile, worn nap. Craft and pattern remain legible despite surface loss in high areas, giving the piece a lived, heritage character. This antique rug holds a considered, restrained presence. Circa 1900 - 1920
