A European wool rug with a muted blue field and lively terracotta border, composed of repeated stylised floral vases, small birds and naïve human figures. X-shaped medallions and compact registers give the design a folkloric rhythm, the palette balanced by cream and green highlights. The wool fibre retains a soft handle and shows minimal wear, with delicate abrash lending depth to the blue ground and borders that remain well defined. Circa 1900 - 1930. 239 x 323 cm. This antique rug reads as a studied exercise in colour, texture and vernacular pattern-making.
