This Tabriz is a restrained wool rug, 274 x 386 cm, woven with an all-over lattice of palmettes and small rosettes within a scrolling vine border. Its neutral colour palette of ivory, beige and warm tan has mellowed with time into a soft, even patina; medium wear and subtle abrash lend depth and tactility to the field. The border’s arabesque rhythm remains legible despite softened edges, allowing the work of the weave to read through the surface. Circa 1910 - 1925. This antique rug carries measured age and a quiet, textural presence.
