A Mallayer antique rug in wool, 312 x 396 cm, where a deep red register sits over a warm brown ground punctuated by neutral and soft blue accents. Composed as an allover field of cartouche-like medallions and small floral fills, its motifs are restrained and rhythmic, framed by a cream foliate border. Low distress and subtle abrash give a tactile, time-softened surface that preserves the original fibre and tonal depth. The piece reads as both made and aged, a quietly assertive example of village weaving language. Circa 1880 - 1900
