A Josheghan worked in wool fibre, this generous antique rug measures 391 x 648 cm and reads as a quietly refined example of late 19th-century design. An all-over lozenge lattice gives way to a softened central diamond; muted rust, soft teal, cream and warm brown sit in layered colour with subtle abrash. The field’s palmette and floral cartouches are rendered in a restrained, geometric order, their outlines mellowed by medium wear. Surface abrasion and areas of slight pile depression lend a velvet patina while the composition retains its formal centre. Circa 1885 - 1900
