This wool tapestry, 86 x 114 cm, reads as a small pastoral tableau in soft pinks, neutral greys and warm brown-gold tones. A simulated gilt-frame border frames the courting couple and wooded backdrop, the imagery mellowed by medium distress and areas of abrash. The wool fibre retains a gentle nap that lends tactility; edges show light fraying but remain stable. The painterly execution and muted colouration point to a late nineteenth to early twentieth century weaving. Circa 1885 - 1925. This antique rug bears the layered presence of age and considered craft.
