This Chinese wool rug reads as a deep navy centre with purple undertones, enlivened by delicate, painterly floral sprays and sinuous stems. A narrow burgundy inner line contains the field while a muted cream outer border carries foliate motifs and small blossoms in soft pink, green and sky blue. The piece shows low wear; the wool fibre and even surface keep a plush, tactile feel and a gentle sheen. Slight abrash across the ground gives the colour a subtle, aged modulation without heavy damage. This antique rug has a composed, heritage-aware character. Circa 1905 - 1920.
