An understated Bakhtiari wool runner, this antique rug is 122 x 356 cm, its surface a study in muted colour and measured ornament. Three oversized medallions (stepped cartouches) progress along the field, separated by floral sprays and restrained geometric fillers. The brown, neutral and gold colourway has mellowed to a warm, tactile patina; low distress and gentle abrash preserve clear motif definition. Borders remain richly patterned with minimal edge wear, suggesting careful use. Circa 1900 - 1920, the piece conveys the considered grammar of tribal weaving, an object where pattern, texture and time are legible in hand.
