This Sarab is an antique rug in wool, presented in 152 x 315 cm proportions that emphasise a stepped central medallion against a finely executed neutral ground. A dense geometric lattice gives the field a textured backdrop to a medallion of red floral motifs and crisp cream highlights; layered borders articulate the edges with rosette and angular motifs. Wear is low and abrash is subtle, leaving a supple, tactile pile and an even patina. Circa 1900 - 1915. The piece reads as a considered example of traditional weaving, with an attentive balance of colour and craft.
