A pale, painterly Chainstitch of considerable scale, this antique rug reads as an embroidered field of roses and wild sprays across a cream ground. At 396 x 876 cm the wool shows a soft, brushed surface where peach and sage motifs settle within a low-contrast scrolling border. Time has mellowed the colour into warm ivories and beige, lending a tactile patina to the floral composition. Circa 1880 - 1900. Even surface wear and light abrash reveal the hand-drawn nature of the motifs; the restrained colourway and quiet scale feel quietly heritage-aware.
