This Lahour rug has a neutral ground enlivened by brown and gold tones, articulated through an all-over floral vine repeat and successive floral borders. At 269 x 478 cm the scale is generous, the wool pile even and gently worn, showing low distress and delicate abrash that suggests steady use rather than loss. The patterning, palmettes, rosettes and scrolling stems, reads as measured and composed, a study in restrained ornament. An antique rug with considered presence, worked in wool and preserved with minimal edge wear. Circa 1920 - 1935. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
