This Mahal antique rug, 381 x 480 cm, presents an allover floral field that has been softened by age into a warm, tonal composition. Rust brown, cream, beige, taupe, and muted blue accents sit within a broad scalloped border, giving the piece a calm but articulate structure. Palmettes, scrolling vines, and small rosettes repeat across the field, their outlines gently worn and beautifully faded. Woven in wool, it has the tactile character and subdued presence associated with a well-preserved, heavily distressed antique rug. Circa 1900 - 1925. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
