This Mallayer antique rug in wool measures 117 x 452 cm and has the elegant, extended format of a long runner. Its field is filled with minute floral repeats, articulated by a stepped medallion axis and enclosed by a slender floral border. Faded coral, teal, slate blue, sage, and rust tones create a muted but still legible composition, while extensive wear lends the surface a softened, timeworn character. Areas of abrasion and loss open the design further, giving the rug a quiet atmospheric depth. Circa 1885 - 1915, it offers a richly aged reading of Mallayer weaving with considerable visual presence.
