This Mahal antique rug measures 279 x 371 cm and has the worn, nuanced presence that only time can create. An allover field of floral and arabesque motifs sits within a traditional border, now softened into faded rust, pale blue, ivory and grey tones. The wool surface shows pronounced distress, with broad areas of fading and abrasion that lend the design a gentle, almost painterly blur. Circa 1920 - 1935, it offers a layered composition with quiet movement, where ornament and wear work together in balance. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
