This Ghiordes antique rug measures 91 x 386 cm, with a long red field accented by cream, white and neutral floral forms. Four evenly spaced bouquet motifs organise the centre, creating a measured vertical rhythm, while the narrow border carries a repeating floral pattern that gently encloses the composition. The wool surface shows medium distress, with visible fading, softened contrast and a lived-in patina across the field. Circa 1880 - 1900, it reflects the balanced ornament and restrained richness associated with Ghiordes weaving. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
