This Mahal antique rug measures 432 x 523 cm and unfolds in a broad allover floral design softened by age. Faded blue sits against red, brown, ivory, and muted gold, while scrolling vines, palmettes, and small floral forms move through the centre beneath a framed border of equally delicate detail. The wool surface shows medium wear, with visible fading and abrasion that lend the rug a calm, settled character. Circa 1885 - 1900, it reflects the layered elegance often found in Mahal weaving, with pattern and patina working together in a quietly textured composition.
