A Hook wool antique rug, 236 x 335 cm, composed in a soft neutral colourway with a floral medallion and scalloped inner border. A black floral cartouche anchors the centre while delicate sprays of roses and leaves run in the surrounding field and corners, the palette leaning to cream, pale pink and sage. The hooked surface presents a tactile, embroidery-like texture and a gentle, even patina across the field. Circa 1910 - 1930. Light centre soiling and soft edge wear give this rug the considered irregularities of age, a vernacular object of quiet material presence.
