A generously scaled Mahal in faded red and warm brown, 340 x 523 cm, where palmettes and delicate floral repeats form a soft, allover lattice. The woollen fibre has mellowed with time; even abrash and medium distress reveal a layered surface and tactile depth. The broad, multi-band border remains legible despite softened edges and local repairs, lending the piece an understated architectural balance. Circa 1915 - 1930, this antique rug conveys the accumulated character of an heirloom textile, its colour and texture refined by long use. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
