This Mahal is an antique rug measuring 310 x 503 cm, a generous wool field mellowed by long service. The composition is an allover floral arabesque of palmettes and vine work, held within narrow floral guard borders and a pale cream ground. Medium distress and soft abrash have produced subtle colour variation and areas of wear that lend a patinated, tactile quality; a few thin patches and gentle fraying remain visible along the edges. The overall effect is quiet, restrained and historically resonant. Circa 1900 - 1915. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
