A refined Mahal in a warm gold ground and neutral brown colourway, this wool antique rug measures 117 x 173 cm. A compact blue medallion centres the gently worn field, its scalloped spandrels and layered floral borders in rust and teal tones. The piece shows low wear, even fading and delicate abrash that gives depth to the ground while preserving crisp motif definition. Muted floral repeats and a tight guard border reveal careful palette restraint and an assured design language, the wool pile retaining a soft handle and low lustre. Circa 1885 - 1900.
