This Kurd runner in wool, 104 x 234 cm, shows a long central band of stepped geometric guls set within narrow guarded borders. A restrained colourway of red, cream and brown is enlivened by rust tones and soft abrash across the field; overall wear is low and the pile retains a delicate sheen. The motifs read as compact, serrated leaves and square cartouches, composed with a disciplined tribal grammar. It reads naturally as an antique rug with an intimate, tactile presence and clear regional vocabulary. Circa 1885 - 1900. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
