This wool Mahal is an antique rug defined by an all-over floral lattice and repeating palmettes on a rich red ground. Cream and neutral highlights thread through the pattern and the indigo-influenced guard borders frame the field with measured restraint. Wear is low and even, allowing the motif repeat and soft abrash to remain evident; edges show light character consistent with age. The rug measures 267 x 305 cm and offers a refined, tactile surface with time-softened colour. Circa 1885 - 1900. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
