A wool Agra in measured proportion, this 274 x 287 cm antique rug presents a warm red ground punctuated by gilt and neutral floral tracery. Large palmettes and sinuous vinework populate the field, balanced by a broad celadon border of geometric floral cartouches and ivory accents. The surface shows low distress with subtle abrash and a soft hand that highlights fibre and time-worn colour. The overall effect is composed, tactile and quietly architectural. Circa 1900 - 1915, the Agra reads as a heritage piece with restrained scale and layered colour.
