This Mahal presents a warm, faded red centre with a refined floral medallion and scrolling spandrels in navy, brown and ivory. The wool shows medium surface abrasion and soft abrash, the dyes mellowed to a tactile sheen that reveals highlights where the pile has worn. A floral vine border contains the composition with subtle colour contrasts, giving the rug a considered, heritage feel. The balance of pattern and wear reads as purposeful and quietly elegant. Circa 1925 - 1940. 244 x 340 cm. This antique rug retains a considered, tactile character.
