This Bijar, handwoven in wool, presents a composed antique rug with a stepped lozenge medallion and an intricate floral-and-vine field rendered in soft neutral, cream and brown tones. At 226 x 371 cm the elongated proportions accentuate the central motif while a series of guard borders contain the dense, worn ground. Medium distress has mellowed contrasts and introduced gentle abrash that heightens the textile’s tactile presence and historic feel. The overall effect is one of restrained ornament and subtle age. Circa 1915 - 1930, this Bijar bears the quiet evidence of long use and careful making.
