An expansive Mahal rendered in warm browns and softened reds, this antique rug measures 526 x 754 cm. The wool field shows an allover arabesque lattice with a worn central suggestion, softened by extensive abrash and heavy surface loss. A deep red border punctuates the neutral field with repeating geometric motifs that read like old block prints. The overall wear creates a tactile, low-contrast surface where colour and form have mellowed with use. Circa 1880 - 1895. Its scale and patina speak to long-lived craft, a quietly weathered presence that favours fibre and time.
