A substantial Agra woven in wool, this antique rug measures 292 x 620 cm and carries an all-over floral lattice of palmettes, rosettes and cascading vine work. Mellow reds sit against soft sage green and neutral highlights, the palette tempered by even, low wear and subtle abrash that give a layered textile depth. The borders echo the field's floral motif within a calm, measured frame; the pile retains a supple hand that reads as tactile and quietly refined. Its scale and restraint indicate considered workshop practice and quiet ageing. Circa 1885 - 1900
