A Mahal woven in wool with a quietly worn neutral field and a deep rust-red guard border punctuated by pale blue and cream accents. The allover lattice of medallions and floral palmettes is softened by even abrash and medium pile loss, producing a muted, tactile sheen and layered colour. Edges show honest character and the composition reads as softened washes of brown, cream and soft white. The sense of hand and time is legible throughout this piece. This antique rug bears visible wear and craft. Circa 1900 - 1920. Size 302 x 422 cm.
