A generously scaled Mahal in wool, this antique rug measures 348 x 442 cm. The field presents a dense floral repeat of palmettes and rosettes framed by multiple narrow borders; a sun-washed palette of cream, neutral taupe, muted red and hints of sage. Medium wear and gentle abrash have softened the pile and mellowed colour contrasts, lending a lived, venerable surface that still reveals the patterned structure. The rug reads as an artefact of craft and age, quietly patinated yet composed. Circa 1880 - 1900. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
